Dear Destee family
treat me as tho i were 2...but I do not know how to put my poetry into anyother shape . I try indenting and voila it goes to the next line ..i want to start in the middle of the page...and voila it goes to the left side..everything is lined up. I want to quote and put in those boxes and i don't know how to do it.. I really have a hard time in the techno world.
all information on the various ways i can put things down would be beyond helpful.
How do you get other colors...(i finally figured out how to use and get those different similes(icons?) ...don't laugh at me..or do I don't care just give me the info...
thanks.

Ahhhh deepy, you are so lucky to have me respond to this first 'cause I am also technically challenged! :lol: BUT...I do know a few things such as, to change your font style and colors of your text, just click on any of the drop down menus located underneath the "Title" above the text box and choose what you want to do. You will also see other options there that will allow you to center your text, or adjust it to the left or right of your text page, indent, bullit, etc. and other features as well. Play around with it and see what happens. For Smilies, :spin: look over to the right side of the text box and either select from those shown or click [More] at the bottom left of that same box and open up a whole host of other options in which to choose from. Whenever you want to use them in your text, just click on them and they will be inserted automatically. Hopefully this information is helpful. Good luck! :teach: :geek:

:martian: I havn't tried it here, but usually, it works pretty well.. just make a small .gif file.. a blank space, and use it at the beginning of your <p>

:look: Or, if you want to be creative, Use a smilie! In fact, If the admin of this board wanted to, I am sure he/she could put a "blank" in the smilie list for that purpous.

maybe you just arent closing your tags. I hate UBB.. it makes HTML seem simple, and anybody who thinks HTML is simple is just making fun of me! LOL

[FONT=Verdana][SIZE=3][COLOR=Indigo][CENTER][B][I]This never works for me either ... all i get is the regular print with all the commands in parenthesis.... HELP !!!

Captain Ray

It's not hard. Legend has it that it can even be done on an IMac! But I can neither confirm nor deny that rumour!

Tags (the ubb codes) in most cases must be opened and closed.

I will substitute { and } in place of the brackets [ ] so you can see what it is that I am doing.

If I am trying to make the color change to something other than the default for the board, I simply type:
{color=red}the text in between the tags will change color{/color}

So if you noticed, what tells the computer that you want to end the effect, and return to the boards default is the / mark in the second tag. The / mark "closes" the tag.

And so it is with almost all tags. In fact, I think in UBB it is always the case, there are exceptions in HTML.

So changing the font is just as easy.

{font=lucida sans}{color=green}{b}{i}
the text should now be written with the new font, green, bold, and italicized!
{/i}{/b}{/color}{/font}

Now that may seem a little difficult, but it's not really. I just did several different inline effects to one small bit of text. I did want to give you an example of "nesting" the tags though. Notice that each tag closes in the same order as it was opened. So the Font tag closes last, and the I tag closes first. That's pretty important in getting it all to work.

It is important to close each tag so that the browser can make the relationship between what you told it to do, and what must be done. It is kind of like if you tell your dog to fetch, but don't throw the ball.. the dog will just look at you like "what???"

I hope that is helpful, and I am making any kind of sense! It really is kind of fun when you start playing with it.

Captain Ray, thank you so much for helping our members understand how to use the different features here. For those of us who are technologically challenged, your explanations are very helpful and with a little practice as Sister deepy is demonstrating, I'm sure we'll get it eventually.

I am going to try and see how this comes out...
It is a mystery to me
Is it going right or
[now i will try this and see

a list
b a number 4
:wave:
[i am trying this way]
[ i thank you and if this works i think i understand]

now i am trying this to see...but why do i have to put the text in this little box..it stops the flowor can i just type everything down first and then go back and put it in the box line by line

Captain Ray

That's Awesome!

Never be afraid to try new things! Not only is it fun, it helps you to try even more fun things!

Keep in mind that you don't have to use [] marks for the text... what is between the tags will be the affected text. Also, if you justify your post to right or center, when using lists, it can look kind of funny... not always, it depends on what you are trying to do.

Keep playing with it.

lists work best when justified left
they can be really helpful in making points you want seperate from the main portion of your text
It's just plain fun!

On making lists

There are two kinds of lists that I know of that you can use.. ordered and un-ordered.

In un-ordered lists you can "bullet' them, or not.. it's up to you.

example; bulleted list:

Making a Ham Sandwich
{list}
{*}Slather mayonoaise;
{*}Slather Mustard, (I like the honey mustard myself);
{*}Place thinly sliced swiss cheese on the bread liberally;
{*}arrange thinly sliced red onions on top of the cheese;
{*}a few sliced tomatoes taste good;
{*}I like pickles.. better put some pickles on there.. dill;
{*}{color=red}{b}LOTS OF HAM!{/b}{/color};
{*}A napkin is a must! and some fresh peaches!
{/list}

This will look like:

Making a Ham Sandwich

Slather mayonoaise;
Slather Mustard, (I like the honey mustard myself);
Place thinly sliced swiss cheese on the bread liberally;
arrange thinly sliced red onions on top of the cheese;
a few sliced tomatoes taste good;
I like pickles.. better put some pickles on there.. dill;
LOTS OF HAM!;
A napkin is a must! and some fresh peaches!

The {*} creates the "bullets". If you put {list=a} it will order your list from a-z. If you put {list=1} your list will be numbered.

I hope you don't mind me telling you about all this. I really enjoy this kind of thing.. so I am mostly indulging myself.

i am working on it
i am not sure what kind of list i want to have
I still have to put it in a little box and not on the page
undefined
I DONT KNOW WHY THAT HAPPENED..I STILL HAVE TO USE THIS BOX THOUGH.
CAPTAIN RAY...JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE...I CHECKED YOU OUT IN WHY AND WHAT....STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY THE BOX

Captain Ray

Deepy...

I am not sure what you mean by "the box."
If you mean that you click on a tool and a dialog "input" field appears.. well, you don't have to use those.. just write the code yourself on the page. I find those things kind of annoying. It's just as easy for me to type

{code} blah, blah, blah {/code}

as it is to click on the "wrap code" button. If all I want to do is make a little bit of text bold well, typing {b}bold{/b} is less work than clicking on the B button and filling out the information in that textarea box. That's me though.

For some people those tools make it easier...

Raymond

p.s. Your list worked perfectly by the way! :geek:

Oh... While I am thinking about it.. I did want to mention hexidecimal color codes.

This can really make it fun, because you can use any number of 16,000,000 color variations! You see, when you limit the number of colors to nouns, you can only choose between sixteen different colors. For instance Peach, Cherry, and Avacado are all just fruits to the computer.. except for Avacado of course.

I usually use charts like the one at Doug's Home Page. (http://www.hypersolutions.org/pages/rgbhex.html) There are a million hex sites, people have a different idea about what kind of COLOR'S they like, so there are plenty of sites out there with colors that will suit your tastes.

Using the hex code is just as easy as using the noun names. Once you get a few that you prefer using you will be able to type them off the top of your head.

Here's how you do it. After looking at the chart, choose a color you like and write the six digit code next to it. Then write this:

{color=#006600}My favorite color happens to be green!{/color}

Just remember to enter the "#" symbol into the hexidecimal code, and you will be ready to go!

Have fun!

Raymond
