Killed by blood-thirsty cop

A driver was sent to his early grave recently by a mobile policeman for daring to drive off from a checkpoint without permission.
It was learnt that the driver, Herbert Ofoegbu, met the evil encounter along Abakaliki-Port Harcourt road, while conveying his master’s children to school.
According to an eye witness, Ofoegbu, on approaching the junction, saw the mobile policemen arguing with a lorry driver and on getting to the checkpoint, the deceased allegedly queued behind the lorry. He decided to continue his journey when suddenly the mobile police officer fired several shots at his car, which shattered his head. Realising what had happened, the policeman took to his heels, abandoning Herbert in a pool of his own blood.
One of the children raced to the police station to alert officers, who promptly dispatched their men to the scene. To save Ofoegbu’s life, they took him to the hospital. Unfortunately, he died on the way before any medical attention could be rendered. Daily Sun learnt that the deceased lost his wife 12 days prior to meeting his untimely death. He left behind two children.
Sources disclosed that the perpetrator of the heinous act was one Sgt. Mohammed attached to a mobile police squad in Enugu.
Reports reaching Daily Sun from the investigating police officer, at the state CID revealed that Mohammed submitted the gun with which he had shot the driver and absconded from duty. He had not been found since then.
The family, represented by its counsel Julius Arinze Ogbuike, is worried about the ugly development and is demanding for justice.
Ogbuike has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun to use his good offices to bring the suspected killer to book.
