I first started posting back on Afronet
there was $$Rich$$, Baller, myself and a few others
who are no longer here. Destee was an administrator at the time for Afronet
and the forum was jumping. Then things changed. Destee resigned from Afronet
and the poets started having problems with haters on the forum and when complaints were
made to the admiinistration over at Afronet, nothing was done. Many of us were resigned to our fate of either grinning and baring the haters or leaving altogether. Many of us chose the latter, but during that time, Destee had created a new home one we affectionately called Destee's Playground...She sent out the call to those who wanted to be a part and a mass exodus began and we entered into this promised land of Poetry. Time back then was simple,we started out with just a few forum topics and a few poets, but the flow was evident in this place and we started growing by Xtreme numbers...Now this is a place that is overflowing with skillz and talents beyond poetry and this is just the beginning....the best is yet to come...

A friend of mine told me about this site a while back. She caught me online one day and brought me over here to register on the forum. I did and she showed me around. She and I chilled out in the chat room with a sweet, sweet woman by the name of Remby. :D And I've been hooked ever since.

I use to be a member of EbonyLove, it started getting boring, and I was having some trouble on it. I told myself I was done with things like that. Then a friend of mine put me on to Destee. She said it would be fun for me. Got to tell you, she was right.

In 1999 I was new to the internet and typed in "african american" in a search engine. It brought me to Afronet, which is where I started chatting under my former name, "Sparkle." There I met Destee and we hit it off right away. I especially admired the sister for all that she is doing and wanted to be a part of her "family" so I became a regular. I've visited other chatrooms but have always returned here. I've always liked the fact that this community is designed for us, is about us, and was done by us. Destee.com is more than a chatroom or discussion forum...it truly is a community.

i was a member of AFRONET when BISHOP, $$RICH$$, DESTEE and a host of others were dropping strong verse and becomuing a great family...AFRONET started acting crazy by not fulfilling their obligations to protect the works of the writers and those who were not poets began to enter the room for the sole purpose of destroying a good thing...

i got the invite to come over the DESTEE.com a few months after it started and i have been here ever since...

i guess you can say i am one of the Elders in da room...

i am still amazed by its growth as of today....

OK,

Between me and Queenie we are about the two orginal chat members. I have been a member of the chat room since goosh ( using destees word) 1995 maybe, and have been here every since. There were so many of us from back in the day, and yes we truely are a family. Some of us have moved away but we all still keep in contact. We are much more than just chatline buddies, we have become true and lifelong friends. We laugh and cry together, we comfort each other in ti mes of crisis, we are there for each other in so many ways. Kem WHERE IS MY BBQ SAUCE YOU PROMISED ME TWO YEARS AGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry I digress, hehehee. But seriously I have always and will continue to praise Destee for having the vision to create such a magnificent place for us. Back in the day we had insane fun and that I will forever cherish. I could go on and on about the beauty of this place, but let me just close with I love this place, my home.

P.S. Thank you Money that was very sweet of you

slightly off topic, but to address Pdiane's comment: The reason Destee is not infiltrated by white supremist (or any other idiots), is because unlike many other "black" websites, this is owned & operated by black people. BET, BlackVoices, Black Planet, and many other popular "black" forums are owned by white corporations. Hence the ignoring of racist trolls, hence the promotion of inter-racial dating, hence the race baiting & gender bashing. Here at Destee there is no hidden agenda, harmony between black people is promoted, and those who do not agree with this...usually do not last.

Well I was a member of Blackplanet, BlackVoices and a few other so called "Black sites", SMH Before I was invited here bu MzBlkangel, I didnt come the first few times she invited me because I was just tired of the games sites had to offer and I was burned out somwhat. The forth (4) time she asked me I said "well if she is speaking this highly of it it has to checked out", So I ventured inside and took a look around  . Now I don't know how everyone else felt when they first entered the doors but I knew this was a special place. I was greeted and welcomed by the members like I was a long lost family member and it felt "real". :luvv:
Then I stayed in the poetry form, and I do mean stayed! I didn't visit any part of destee at all for awhile I had poetry fever..
I was invited to voice chat over and over.. I was naw naw naw that aint even me at all. But I finally went inside and met the family. Well to make a long story short or did I make a short story long?

I was a poet on Afronet where great poet's was flowing likes of
Bishop , the late watcher , Alyce and Amun-Ra , Dnommo , heartbeat
and a few more with Destee and when thing took a turn on us we started
leaving one by one and destee then gave birth to DESTEE.COM for the first
two months i didn't cross over but my bruthas and dear friend Bishop & watcher
told me to try it out it was run by Destee so i entered when it was so few of us
and not a lot of forums i walked in and got my flow on found love and peace
that's when i knew i had a mission here to fulfill so i took many by the hand as they entered here at the playground of destee.com to later merge with destee and
a great team of moderators and been beside our Mother Queen from that day
trying to help build a strong community for our people and today i sit back and
say wow! to what we have become sistah destee is magical and wonderful she
did what no one else would temp to do and made it work so here i am as one of
destee staff member and the last original moderator that started from the beginning
working beside destee has been wonderful through the years so i found destee's
from a great poet name BISHOP !
this been home so long i done carved my name on the floor board of the welcome
mat at the front door and back door so happy i made that transistion and cross
ova for what has been an very long walk and a great task going uphill with destee
and all the family here and the great staff , it's been long ago i came here and
delighted i did...........Thank u Destee for Destee.com poetic playground and the
air space to be myself openly and feel free most humble to u Mother Queen.

I saw an advertisement in Black Enterprise magazine about 2 years ago. I went to the company's website and saw it was designed by Destee. I clicked on the link and found this board.

Hello Ellacott and Welcome!

So good to have you with us, and thanks for sharing so much already!

I wanted to let you (and the Family) know, that i did not design Black Enterprise Magazine's web site. I have never worked for them ... though i've visited their site often, and it is beautiful, which makes the mistake quite a compliment! :)

Your post encourages me to share the fact that i have had the great pleasure of speaking with Mr. Earl Graves, personally! :) This was several years ago, he was the featured guest (of course) during a live online interview. I had the task of speaking with him on the phone, throughout the 2 hour show, sharing his responses with the audience. Oh gosh, this is reminding me of how long i've been out here! This was during the days when there was no voice capability available! So, he was on the phone with me, and i told him the questions folks were asking ... and he could see them too on his own computer ... and he told me what to type as his response, and of course he could see this too. It was great! I was so nervous at first, in anticipation of the event and my responsibility in it ... but after speaking with Mr. Graves for just a few short minutes, all anxiety ceased, and it was like talking to one of my own humorous uncles that i know and love!

Remember, he could see the questions that were being asked ... and i sometimes scrolled back or reminded him of ones he might have missed ... so, as the show progressed ... i began thinking of my own questions to ask him, concerning business ownership ... and so i snuck one of mine in ... he said ... "I didn't see that question on the screen? ... and i said ... "Oh, i'm sorry, that is my question, is it okay if i ask one?" ... and he said, "Sure, it's okay, where do i send the bill?" ... :eeek: ... we both laughed, and of course he did answer my question with much warmth and encouragement.

I'm sure he does not remember any of this ... but i certainly do!

All of that to say, welcome Ellacott, and thanks for the opportunity you've provided, for me to share one of my experiences.

Please continue to make yourself at home, because you are.

Thank you all Family, for sharing in this thread. It is overflowing with love!

Hi Destee,

What a wonderful story about Mr. Graves. :)

I was clear in what I originally posted on how I found your site. There was an ad in Black Enterprise about a man who designs handbags. It was the designer's site that I visited. It was at that site that I saw it was designed by Destee and that's the link I followed to get me here.

That was about 2 years ago. Maybe it was another Destee that's in web design.

I personaly believe that God guided me to this place ......

But the way how it exactly went was ....

i pressed www.Afro.com....

i wanted to know what came out of it....
i was looking for sites of afroamerican people....
I am half Dutch half Surinam..
my father forfathers ....came from africa to and where brought to curacaou..and eventualy to surinam. So a part of my culture and background is kinda simular as the roots of afroamericans....rather some want to believe it or not....

So i landed at www.Afronet.com....and there i saw a topic on wich you can click on ......Poetry.......
than i landed in destee,s place.....
I was in a chat mood at that time...
i was lonely and in search of manny things.
i saw a chat room to.......
and i went there.....
There i had the feeling that i was new to the people...
but i also had the feeling that some people already knew me....
but they said they did not...
cause someone said ..."'she did a good job"'
(it could be cause i have been to others sites to..)

i noticed that this site had a good vibe so ..
i started to feel comvertable and get to know the place and topics and brother and sisters (still get to know this place and brothers and sisters) ...
and i saw the Poetry topics and i finaly got the change to also express in my poetry....
I sumthimes bumped in some strange things (sumthimes also beautifull)
but hey every place has his things at times but a good foundation can take
some punches...

this i how i found destee,s:heart: place...

but like i said i believe that god brought me here....
for some reason.....(to learn to love to guide to shine to Hold and Join hands and hearts)
only he knows.

and i love being here on this site with the beautifull brothers and sisters:heart:

I just read my other post and it contained a typo. It should have read, "I wasn't clear.

I apoligize. That sounded quite rude and I would never intentionally come across like that.

Awwww Sister ... bless your heart ... your Spirit is so sweet! I never took any offense, and believed in my heart that what might possibly could be considered rude ... was not intended to be that way ... you see Sister ... you gave so much love, your Spirit preceeding you, in all that i read from you ... that only a person who was looking and hoping for "rude" could have possibly thought that! No apology was necessary.

God Bless Us All!

I was actually doing a search on a topic for a paper I was doing in English, centering around the balck experience. I was eventually lead to a link to Destee and well liked what I saw. And well I'm still here! lol

I was searching for African American Discussion boards. Since vBulletin software is commonly used for many larger discussion boards online, I entered african american vbulletin (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=african+american+vbulletin&btnG=Google+Search). It happens that this forum is at the top of the list.

(it turns out this is a good way of finding discussions on any topic of interest - just enter __your topic___ + vbulletin )

I mest Destee first in an AOL chat called "BlackVoicesOver 40" or so in 1997. There were lots of nice people and intersting conversations/discussions. In 2000 she gave me the link to her new website and I could introduce my travel agency (which is in Bonn/Germany, where I live) there.

Well, here we are ! 10 years later....:toast:

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh My Goodness !!!!!

Talk about a BLAST FROM THE PAST !!!! :great: :great: :great:

Xeuroli ... wow ... haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ...

What a wonderful surprise !!! Oh My Goodness !!! You know i was sooooooo surprised to see that you had registered in the community and could hardly wait to see your first post!!! Wow Wow Wow! I was thinking ... is this my same Xeuroli ???? ... surely there can't be a whole bunch of Xeuroli's in the world ???? ... ... ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ... it does my heart soooo much good to be speaking with you now, after so many years has passed since our first meeting! Such a blessing! Thank you for coming, joining, and giving me this moment to treasure forever!

And hey ... we started in BV over 30 ... ... at this point in life, we can't be skipp'n decades ... and even then, i don't think i was 30 yet ... ...

Xeuroli ... isn't it nice to run into some of the same old folk from back in the day? Have you seen any others? Some are active Members here at destee, which of course does my heart good! Do you know that some have become Ancestors now? It's truly a blessing to be able to reach out and touch old friends. I don't care what folk say about relationships forged on the Internet, for to me, they are real, lasting, and such a blessing!

Again, thanks for making my day!

Much Much Love and Peace.

Xeuroli ... you've made me go skipping down memory lane! I went and found your post to my old guestbook so i could share it here! Do you remember writing this ...

Name: Markus Dorst - December 20, 2000
Location: Bonn, Germany
Comments: Hi Lola!!!! I am deeply impressed by the development your site and company have taken and am proud to be your friend. Since those days on AOL BV40 chat, unfortunately my own company has not been that successful, and I have not yet made up my mind if to continue or not. Nevertheless, my promise, once given, is standing : If I should EVER come up with a web site, it is YOU who will design it!!! for the moment I wish you and yours a wonderful christmas, and hope that all is good over there. I hope to hear from you sometime, Markus (XEUROLI) P.S. If you, DESTEE, or any of our old friends, know(s) what happened to our mutual friend Chris Jones (Jonesk1064@aol.com) , please inform me. P.P.S.

It's from this page ... http://destee.com/guestbook/archive2.html

And yes ... i have spoken with Jonessssssy a few times over these many years. It's not been recent though, but last i spoke with him, he was doing well! He's not a Member here at destee, but he should be! When i talk to him again, if i get that opportunity, i will surely be fussing at him about this!

hmmmm ... i guess you're right about the bv40 thing, but i think i just hung out there to be with you older folk ...

Again ... thanks for the memories ... Much Much Love and Peace!

How did i find this place of harmony from the hectic life out side of it? Well back in 2000 I had just got my first computer...didnt know a thing I was doing with contraption hitting one site after another nothing please me. So I did a google search and there at the top was Destee's Discussion Forum... Wow!!!! I was blown away when I arrived and saw the interaction going on, the poetry, the chat, and the friendliness of the people. It was amazing to me. At that time i didn't know anything about a handle or site name for myself so I just used my own...but to this day i am so grateful to have found a home ...and like a home... I'm here everyday almost....

Thank you Sister Des tee for giving me a place that I can call my home away from home.
