View Full Version : Front Porch : How and why did you pick your name

deepy
12-19-2003, 12:58 AM
My name here in destee is DEEPY. I took it as a memorial to my brother, He died this year...and was the last living sibling i had..He was actually called deepstuff by all of us when we were very young and that slowly ebbed into deep or deepy.
I am not a male...definitely female...but the name became genderless.....A homage to a very together and deep brother.
So manyof you have interesting names...I wondered if any of you would share how and why the choices you made. as well as pronunciation (phoentically please). Are they names that have to do with the political self, spiritual self, etc...

Khasm13
12-19-2003, 01:43 PM
name: khasm13

pronounciation: same as chasm

meaning: a deep opening made by disruption, as a breach in the earth or a rock; a yawning abyss; a cleft; a fissure.

meaning2: 13 is the summation of all good and evil in this universe. 13 is also the 7th prime number, so in this epic battle, good will always prevail...if anyone reads my poetry, this is the empirical concept behind most of my poems...

one love
khasm

uzoka
12-19-2003, 01:56 PM
Name: Uzoka [Birth] nickname

Pronounciation: OO-ZOH-KAR [emphasis on the first syllable which is pronounced quickly read than with a drawn out ooo :) ]

I just now made a pretty lame attempt at trying to give my name's meaning but the truth is I don't know exactly, was never interested in my African roots growing up and hated the calling of my name [especially in front of 'friends'].

I remember my father telling me and it was something along the lines of, 'the path to God is good' or ' this is the path to God' but the second one makes me sound as a little presumptuous

I met a Nigerian woman when I first travelled to Australia who gave me my full name which I was silly not to jot down, more than five or so syllables long...I'll have ot get back to you on the full name and meaning.

Peace

I probably have the most general name out there. I'm a black man living in the Atlanta metropolitan area hence AtlantaEbonyMan.

HO - DEE

FIRST TWO SYLLABLES FROM MY LAST NAME ( HO )

FIRST LETTER OF MY FIRST NAME DRAWN OUT. ( D )

A friend called me that one day. I have the same first name as her husband. Sometimes when I meet people. I use my last name. Until I get to know them. When I first met her. I gave her my last name. When she realized we had the same first name. She called me this to irritate :cuss: me. She only calls me by this. It stuck.

Nia Maishani
12-19-2003, 04:22 PM
My name (NEE' ah MY' ee SHAH' nee) is from the Kiswahili language (most widely spoken language on the Afrikan continent). Nia means "Purpose" and Maisha is "Life". "Ni" is a suffix to indicate that something is "in" or "within", hence, Purpose In Life.

A Zairean friend who once tutored me in Kiswahili (his native language) gave me the Swahili translation of my former screen name and present e-mail address (Purpose In Life), and I have used it ever since.

I regret to learn of your misfortune "Deepy", and offer my sympathy.

Nfant De Milieu is just a rewording of enfant de milieu, which in french means
the middle child. I am the middle child of 5. I often feel that I am misunderstood since I suffer from the middle child syndrome. You wouldnot understand unless you was a middle child.

Hi Deepy ... and Everyone! :)

I adopted my youngest child in 1996, and that time happened to coincide with me getting online for the first time. She was 2 years old and her name is Destiny. When i signed on to AOL for the first time in my life, i had to choose a name and Destiny was taken ... so i chose Destee instead ... and i've been Destee ever since.

As a matter of fact, back then, she would get quite upset with me because she thought i'd stolen her name! I had to explain to her that she is Destiny and i am Destee ... bless her sweet heart ... anyway ... she's kewl with it now.

I adopted my name because I think words are the most important things in this world. It's our frm of communication. Words can make you feel just about anything. And I think I'm on my way to becoming a pretty decent writer and thinker. So here I am, SayWord.

watzinaname
12-21-2003, 09:44 AM
Interesting topic, deepy. And I am sorry to hear of your loss. Watzinaname is a play on words so to speak, from the quote from Shakespeare. My interest in poetry blossomed when I was taking a high school class that focused on his poetry. I liked this particular work because I had to develop a hard shell early. You may say what you think I am, but I know what I am. Peace.

Emeka
12-22-2003, 02:10 AM
Chukwuemeka (Chu-Ku Eh-Mekka) is my actual first name. It's probably the most common Igbo name for males; the female version being Chukwuamaka (Chuk-Ku Ah Makka). There are other versions which are also popular depending on the area of South-Eastern Nigeria you. The other versions being: Nnaemeka (Nn-na Eh-Mekka) and Chiemeka (Chh-E Eh-Mekka). The meaning of the name being: God (Chukwu) has done greatly (Emeka). Igbo names are funny because a LOT of them have the name God (Chukwu, Chi) in them, this gives the name two parts. The first part is generic (the god name) and the second is the actual name. For example, the generic part of my name is Chukwu, but my "actual" name would be Emeka. Thus Emeka is the name that is most commonly used not Chukwuemeka. And because Chukwu is generic, I can not be called Chuk or Chukwu as short name, it just does n't work (so please don't call me "Chuk" as a short name). If anybody wishes to shorten my name then you can call me Emeka. Thanx.

P.S in fact my short name would actually be Emmy (Eh Me) which is short for Emeka. Does anyone think I should change my forum name from Chukwuemeka to Emeka in order to make it easier for everyone to remember and pronounce?

livinitlovinit = living it loving it. It stands for the patience and sacrafice put forth to get to where I am now. There are plenty more I hope to achieve, but based upon my past, I would have never imagined being given the opportunities I have. When I say I'm truely blessed, I really mean I'm truely blessed to be here and have the family I have and look forward to raising some beautiiful, confident, wonderful, successful lil men and women.

dadachango69
12-22-2003, 04:33 PM
Chango is the Orisha of my godhead in the Lucumi Yoruba tradition and Dada is the Orisha who crowns me with the goodness to do positive things in life. Both are often received together during an initiation, as they are both very similar in their ways save for the fact that Chango tends to be more agressive than Dada and is a better strategist in life. Chango, a born leader, runs things with a more agressive upper-hand, while Dada bestows opulence and good-heartedness over him. Together they fight all the injustice in the world.

Chango was the 4th (some say 3rd) ruler of Old Oyo in West Africa. As an Orisha, he replaced the original "deity of thunder" named "Jakuta". His deeds in life became so notoriously reknown througout the Oyo Empire that he was exalted to Orisha status as a way of remembering him.

Dada was the ruler before him. He was too benovolent, philanthropic and kind to rule a kingdom and preferred to "live it up" lavishly rather than bother with all the intricacies of running an Empire. He abdicated his throne to his brother, Sango (Chango). As a venerated Orisha, he is the "god of vegetables" meaning, not only agricultural abundance, but also things which evolve naturally. He is also patron of all newborn children and deals with eloquence, grandeur and financial success.

69 is my birth year.

This has been my screen name forever and I see no need to be anyone else. I am happy with my simple little name.

Da1whoownslife
12-22-2003, 04:40 PM
da1whoownslife= the one who owns life........ I chose that particular name not trying to imitate God and say I am him.... (many claim) but to show that I am the one who chooses what path I go down.... I am a big believer in free will.... and it takes the right choices to get to your pre-destination....

12-23-2003, 06:45 PM
Very nice, mind-opening topic here.

Simply put, when I was younger in this life, I was a very negative minded individual, selling, robbing, jumping, whatever I felt like doing at a moments notice, I was all in it.

The Almighty blessed me with inserting me into a facility of corrections 4 6 months, where I was forced 2 miss the birth of my daughter, now 10 years old. This caused me 2 change my way of thinking & living so I will never be taken away from her again.

Therefore, that man-child with a negative mindset became a man with a PositiveMindset.

LibertyLady
01-01-2004, 12:29 AM
this is a nice topic...

because recently sumthing interessting and beautifull happend around this name

"'libertylady"'

My mom lives far from me in the dutch carribian ,and i am planning to move to be reunited with her again. She knows that i write Poetry but she did not knew that my poetname is
libertylady here at desthee,s cause she is a bussy woman...
Recently she send me a mail and told me that she opend a little smal company....bedises her regular job... .
She does painting and crafts and makes cards christmas cards and stuff ,
She told me that she named the company Liberte.....
Than she told me that she did this because her mam and that is my grandma her name is
Liberte with a stripe above the e...
i didnt know about this ..and she didnt know about my poet name...
I asked my grandma and she told me sumthing that even my mom does not know and i still have to tell her..
And that is that when my grandma was born her mother wanted to call her Liberty...

.....unbeliveble....

but the goverment didnt allow her to call her that way...it was not allowed...
So than she turned it in to Libertha....
After she gave them this name they even made a dictionary fault and so it became Lubertha
and it should have been Libertha...

I choose the name libertylady because when i was young they used to call me the free child ..or the child with a free spirrit now that is funny cause almost every child is free...
in spirrit..
l in my being and spirrit am still a child.....
but i added the lady to it because i am a lady (though some dont see me that way because i,m free and some see that as childish)
but i am
woman....

i chose my name on a whim (to be truthful) my first poety site was DPJ and out of excitement (or laziness) i decided to name myself Jazz (cause i'm told i talk so much of it) and going from site 2 site i recognized the names/people and didn't want to confuse people so it stuck personally i think it fits...

I have it in another forum. Few find it offensive; I don't. Why the same in this forum? Maybe to test the waters. Maybe to compare the kind of individuals that exist in either sides. At the end of the day, what matters are ideas and viewpoints, which is why I am here.

you are right arabman...what matters are ideas and viewpoints...and yet your name represents exactly that...
which is why i am curious...in the end all is political..what we say, what we eat, how we dress...what we call ourselves...

river
04-06-2004, 04:48 PM
My real name is Rhonda which is Celtic/Welsh for "powerful river" or "good spear." Like most American mothers mine didn't know what my name meant when she named me. She just liked the sound of it. Yet this name so describes the way my life and personality have developed over the years.

When I found Destee Chaka Khan's old song Roll Me Through The Rushes kept going through my mind and I kept hearing that one part "River, River." I kept trying to think of a screen name and finally decided to stop looking and use what was obviously being given to me. What can I say--it just flowed.

diakonos
04-07-2004, 12:20 PM
Diakonos (dee-ah’-koh-noss) is Greek for “servant”, and is used in the Bible to describe helping others in a selfless manner. The English language derives the word “deacon” from this term found in the New Testament. Depending on the context of the scripture, diakonos can have one of three meanings: deacon (which I happen to be), servant or minister.

At first, I thought that I was the only Cedric Denson in the world, but then I learned that there is a race car driver named Cedric Denson, and there is an ex-con named Cedric Denson, and then some. I was upset, because I truly believe that when I pass on and go to Heaven, there not be another Cedric Denson that will turn out to be like me. I don't like when my name is used in shame either. I become upset when I see the names "Cedric" or "Denson" in the newspaper for not abiding by the rules of society.

Cedric Denson is my full name. "Ramon" is my middle name, and I do not like the thought of having an "R" in my initials, so I do not use my middle name much. I will grow up in this world succeeding bigger and better than I could ever imagine, and possibly bigger than other people could imagine. I have not hit 20, and I am planning like I am 26, and I take pride in that. That means that I have time.

Why use it on Destee? Because when people want to find out what went through my mind in my younger days, the first place they can find it is right here on Destee's website. Up in New York where I grew up at, people would use nicknames and stuff because they did not want anyone to know who they were, or because they did not like their name enough to be called by their real names, so they came up with nicknames. Well I grew up with the attitude that I love my name, and with the reputation that I have, people deserve to know who I really am. I can be sure that viewers will be shocked to find such a valuable person like myself talking in forums, but when they get to know this one one, they will understand why I am in here. This will show them after reading the poetry and columns and stuff, that I got a big share of knowledge from here, and they will follow.

But yeah, I decided to use my real name on Destee because I was Cedric Denson when I was accomplishing in the past, still am Cedric Denson while I am accomplishing things, and will be Cedric Denson while I am accomplishing things in the future. You will always know me and recognize me as Cedric Denson, no matter what.

I did not want to type this long, but after reading some of the posts in this thread, I thought it would be a great time to tell everyone a bit about myself. My blessings go out to you deepy, I am sorry about your loss, and really hope that everything will be okay for you. That is what we are here for on Destee, we will not let you down. Starting this thread was a very noble idea, because now we know a bit more about eachother. More will come, believe it. Some of us will no longer be strangers to eachother; we are a Family on Destee!

Poeticsoulsista
09-13-2004, 11:05 AM
Well as all already know my name is Poetic-Soul-Sista

Well I chose Poetic because I write. I am a poet

I chose Soul cause that's where I write my versus and stanzas come from, that's where my poetry live, and many people tell me my poetry is very strong and has very deep meaning. I want people to feel blessed by what I have to say. I feel in order for some one to feel what a person is saying and learn from what that person is saying it must be real. I think truth and love come from the soul, and that's what I try to put into my work.

and lastly I chose Sista because I am indeed a sista and I think sista carry alot of strength behind it. When most people talk about a conscious and wonder Afrikan Queen they usually say sista. I think it give my name power and life.

So that's how I got my name.:) I think it best describes my work what do you think?

I suppose I had a reason....the name relates to my past/present alias on other sites and I made it so my friend could tell.....my other name was more interesting to speak on I guess......oh wait...another reason!! I wanted people to know I am a man. I would have gone by "Blak" which people on another site also call me, but I have had people not know which gender I was ....at first...it becomes obvious in certain threads, but when speaking on something not to do with relationships, people have mixed me up before for some reason. :flame: Not anymore. :spinn:

Triniti424...

TRINITI
It is my stance on TRUE LOVE...PURE DIVINELY BLESSED LOVE...
MAN + WOMAN + GOD (DIVINE INSPIRATION & BLESSING ) = LOVE Pure inspired unrelenting Love... It is a Trinity not the original TRINITY- Father, Son, Holy Spirit - but a TRINITI nonetheless... IMHO if man and woman can respect and Love the spiritual essence that has created US than LOVING each other is understood from a higher perspective... To some its for the birds but it makes sense in my lil world :look: :)

I am abig maya angelou fan my favorite poem is When I think about myself. (it reminds me of myself) but you can't exactly use that as a screen name so i chose my second favorite poem phenomenal woman.

When I Think About Myself

When I think about myself,
I almost laugh myself to death,
My life has been one great big joke,
A dance that's walked,
A song that's spoke,
I laugh so hard I almost choke,
When I think about myself.

Sixty years in these folk's world,
The child I works for calls me girl,
I say "Yes ma'am" for working's sake.
Too proud to bend,
Too poor to break,
I laugh until my stomach ache,
When I think about myself.

My folks can make me split my side,
I laughed so hard I nearly died,
The tales they tell sound just like lying,
They grow the fruit,
But eat the rind,
I laugh until I start to crying,
When I think about my folks.

I have always been fascinated with Africa & Black People! This fascination has puzzled my family, because although I grew up in a strong black family (mother & father together with no drama), it was never political. I did not get a "Black Encyclopedia" like Michael Evans from Good Times, nor did I get Black History for children. However, I loved my people anyway, and had a natural curiosity about them. Indeed I remember watching cartoons as a child on Saturday mornings. Whenever a black character would come on, they would automatically be my favorite. This would also happen if I was reading a comic book, watching a TV show, or looking at a movie. No matter who the main character was, I would always gravitate towards the black one.

My fascination with Blackness extended into my teenage years. Like many of us, I never learned anything about African history, other than blacks were slaves...maybe a paragraph or two about Martin Luther King. However I knew there was more, so I sought to study on my own, starting with the Autobiography of Malcolm X (I rented it from the Public Library), then moving on to other books about famous & accomplished Black People. My pride in my history & people grew, and my love of black history would never fade.

As started college in the mid-1990s I started to study business (like my father), even earning an Associates in Business Management. However when I transferred to finish my Bachelor's, I decided to use some of my electives to take a course in African history. With this course my love of Black history re-emerged from the background into the forefront! After taking this class, I decided to take another in the African Diaspora. In this class I learned about PanAfricanism, which summarized everything I felt about my people & our history. It is from PanAfricanism that I took my name: PanAfrica!

hmm..... tite story you got there, pan. i'd love to hear more about your journey to the roots.

plainrhythm.... plain... rhy....thm..... rhythm... plain.....

where do i begin? i've always found myself mizundastood, never really was the outgoing type.. until i met someone who actually made a huge impact on my life, he made me feel like i was worth something and he introduced me to poetry. unfortunately all things good must come to an end so we broke up and never really spoke again since i moved to South Africa. To this day, everything i write, i write for him, and in his name... that's where the PLAIN comes from.

rhythm.... rhythm.... beat... drum...

my auntie used to call me her little rhythm before she passed. she says when i slept, i used to sleep with a beat in my mind and a smile on my face... like i had a drum in my heart...

and that's where the name RHYTHM comes from...

AND ALL TOGETHER NOW, SAY IT FOR THE TEAM:

PLAINRHYTHM!!!!

Given name = Kelvin

I had a nickname I have used online since '84. But, I stopped using it just as I quit my last regular job. I have been trading (building) on my name, online now for a few years. So, I want people to know who I am. I have been seen in many different places on and off line, and don't want to confuse people who may require my services.

Thank You again sister Kwango_Likemba (Abantu)! I neglected to mention that after I took the class in African History, I changed my major (eventually graduating with a Bachelors in History). From there I went to study African Diaspora History in Graduate School. I also love plantains. In fact I had plantains, rice, yams, malanga, fish, and peanut soup both Saturday & Sunday! My wife cooks this especially well, in addition to Okra stew!

My name came from one of my poems titled.

Letter to the ignorant racist man

Now prizefighter means a professional boxer who fights to win money. But that is not me. It kind of relates to the song "keep your eyes on the prize..." Well, i figured that i wanted to do more than that. I wanted to fight for whatever i was goin after, whether it involves questioning, or writing, or whatever i have to do. Im very ambitious, as you can see (not vaulting ambition :) ) My name is neutral to gender, so i will let you know that I am FEMALE. :)

I also call myself The Soul Child Written...but i created this name way after I signed up with Destee. So, i just put SCW. thats the initials...and WHEN i finish college and publish any type of work, that will be my psuedonym, SCW-soulchildwritten. Just to let yall know :))

You shouldn't feel stupid. I guess we're really deep because we all feed off of each other's knowledge, or questioning, at least that's wat i do. When i came here, i was somewhat intimidated because I was so young, still am, and mostly everyone was over 18. But it's very welcoming here. So there's no reason to feel stupid at all :)

anAfrican
02-03-2005, 01:26 AM
i chose anAfrican because i am an African, ethnically. politically, i am a staunch American (the original; not this modern day "stuff"). if you gottta go there, it's "american African", i.e. an African born in the geological americas. ("north american African" would also be ok, but i think it might be time to recognize that north+central+south=america. thus i feel the former to be more appropriate.)

i'm ok with "a Black Man", i'll bridle a bit (internally) with "Black American", and i'll come close to going ballistic with "African American". why? 3) like the french foreign legion; once you get here, you're an American; 2) dividing America into "[ethnic] Americans" led to the fragmentation that has enabled (and continues to enable) the invasion of America that we are "living" with (time for a constitutional convention to take our Nation back from the oligarchs!); and 1) the historical activities of my poor misrepresented and abused Nation (yup, i'm a full blooded "don't tread on me!" little-r republican [not to be confused with the GOP-type "RepugniKlan"!], as well as an honorably discharged enlisted veteran of the USAF.) around this planet makes me uncomfortable with saying "African" and "American" in the same breath. (hmmm ... <g> maybe a "top ten reasons why" list in the appropriate thread? `scuse!)

i chose anAfrican because i'm tired of, fed up with and all over done with the "divide and conquer" strategy that keeps This Earth's First People split up and disempowered. as long as that obtains, the freedom to continue to loot and pollute our Homeland will continue. (the "back to Africa" movement will resume spontaneously once Africa recalls Herself through reconnection of Her Children. it MUST begin as a "spiritual" thing, that is, through our individual remembrance of Ourselves to Ourself. it MUST NOT begin as a conscious effort to "take back our continent", or through a "radical activism"-type "Africans to/for/by/only Africans" ... yet - that will follow through the global consiousness of our re-acknowledging our African (-ness? -ality?) Self.

erk! as usual, i'm trying to say too much in one place. maybe i should have just dumped it all in my introduction and let y'all pick it apart and put it in the thread it should be in, since you know the community better than i do? (hint, hint! <g>LOL)

anyway, i think you get the idea. <g>

peace!

Hypnotize
02-11-2005, 01:06 AM
Peace ya'll.
In the first days of this site, i used to post mad poems on here.
I actually think this is the first or second chat site (when it was that OTHER site) that i had ever been introduced to so it was probably the first or second places that i ever used the name Hypnotize.
On the Mic, my name is Mercury Rising (all types of stuff to read into on that)
but Hypnotize (or Hypnotize26) is not very layered.
Peeps always think it's HYPNOTIQ like the drink, but i don't drink so of course
THAT A'INT IT !! - LOL

No doubt yo, it's actually quite simple.

The song "Hypnotize" was Biggie's first single from the Life After Death album.

After all his success and critical acclaim, he was one of the most hated people in
Hip Hop (thanks to unfocused thuglife cats i won't mention).

Frank White faced all type of uphill battles, and being able to overcome the sophomore jinx - prove naysayers wrong - re-affirm the east and BadBoy...
all those struggles were laid to rest with the success of "Hypnotize".

The first time i heard that joint on the radio,
i sat back in the car and said to self ..."we won".

This song was on the charts in Norway, Sweden, the U.S. --- all over the world !
It was faaar beyond a hit. It was a phenomenon.

So I chose this name because it honors Big, and also because it embodies
winning against all odds.

My name isn't really that unique, I guess.. But Nubian One.. is just exactly what I am.. I was debating between this an Nubian Goddess..

"The birth of Nubianism or the return of the Nubian consciousness, study of Nubian history, reverence for Nubian culture and the recognition of the Nubian blood and lineage started in Nubia, right there in the South of Egypt, where to be Nubian is to belong to the world's longest lasting civilization and the belonging to a people with the longest lasting kingship on earth. this used to be my favorite drink because when I met Shaun (the a$$hole that all my love poems are about, and now all the hate ones) I was drinking Alize and he was drinking Tangueray. He came over, poured his double shot of Tang in my glass of Alize and told me to take a sip. I did and liked it. We talked and that was it. A few weeks later I saw him again. He crossed the bar towards me with two drinks in his hand, Then he gave me a smile and said...

"If this is you (handed me a glass of Alize) and this is me (tang), both of us are good by ourselves, but together we're the best. :uhoh: :uhoh: It was so cheesy I decided to give him my number :uhoh: :uhoh: and to this day alizentang is stuck with me because that's my login to too many things to try to change. 10-20-2005, 09:00 PM
I selected my name because I have always loved the rich color, texture, and quality of mahogany wood. After my first semester in college in the good ole' "sunshine state" of Florida, instead of getting darker, I turned a nice shade of reddish brown. Thus I coined the name mahogany and changed the letters to give it my own special twist. It describes me well, rich color, smooth and soft texture, high quality...So there you have it: MAHOGANEE.

Lazarus is a symbolic parable to the history of the Black man in America.

A mental, spiritual and cultural resurrection must occur or Afrikans will remain in the cemetery that is the white-defined paradigm of Western society.

Elijah Muhammad makes the same plea in his attempt to resurrect the so-called Negro from the cemetery that is North America. "Come out of her, my people!"

I agree that was clever. However, as sister River once pointed out, if you read some of her posts on sex & sexuality, "nevar" isn't an accurate description of her.

Hey Froggy man indeed that say it all on da big Hop Thankz for sharing why u are the Frogg man .......keep dem hops on beat !

abstract219
01-29-2006, 03:42 PM
my screen name is a take on what used to be a tease.....i was always a curious, weird kid.....around 11 years old i discovered various painting forms that was considered "abstract"

....i became enamoured with it, and tried to tell my friends in the bronx about it..of course they laughed like hell, looked at the art and then called me crazy...

from there, they just called me ''abstract", which i hated...then it went to just plain "abbie"..and Im a man.

When Q-Tip of Tribe Called Quest called himself "abstract poetic"..i just reclaimed the name with a sense of pride....
Im still weird, still into expressionism, dada, surrealism and afro-futuristics...still into the 20th century atonal music....

the 219 is just a mystical grouping of numbers....that mean absolutely nothing.

my condolences, deepy....i feel your pain, and your obvious pride and love for your brother. may he rest in peace.

4EVERLUV
06-17-2006, 02:18 AM
I chose my screen because I am in luv with luv and everything that it personafies. If you have never truely luved someone or truely been luved then you would not be able to relate. But for those of you that have. You know what luv does to you. That feeling of euphoria. When the little things make your day. Everything is right in the world. Hence, the 4EVER. If this was a perfect world that is the way I want feel all the time. But since it is not we have to experience the other feelings that are the nature of the beast. But I feel its all in what one is willing to accept or tolerate, and learning to forgive. Sorry I did not mean to ramble. I guess I felt like sharing and since I have been here I find myself wanting to do that alot more than ususal. Thanks for your time.

Much Luv

Ikoro.

It's "Nigerian", most notably Igbo for spiritual drum/drum.

The Ikoro was used in the village when something of great importance needed to be discussed or brought to attention. The Ikoro were huge drums that, when sounded, would alert the whole village and make them gather at the square.

It's my artistname. My philosophy is only to perfrom about things that are important for my peoples survival or wellbeing, thus, Ikoro.

afroprincess

My name was chosen because for about a year or two I've been breaking away from the perm and other straightening products. Well about three maybe four months ago I took my braids down and started wearing an afro. When my friend saw me he called me his afro wearing princess. The name has become like my second name, Afroprincess...it's strong, soft, feminine, and powerful to me. That's why I chose this name.

ShemsiEnTehuti
12-08-2006, 03:47 PM
My name is "Shemsi en Tehuti", which comes from the ancient Kemetic language, Mtw Ntr. It means "one who follows divine truth and wisdom". It can also be translated as "seeker of truth" or "one who seeks God's wisdom". I chose this name because this is my true journey in life. It is to seek wisdom, and do as the neter Tehuti did; reveal that knowledge and truth to others.

MenNefer
06-24-2007, 06:42 PM
How... I queried the oracles of the Metu Neter (Ausar Auset Society) technically but actually inquired that which is the nexus of me and all that is. After getting my incarnate objective I gave form to it as Khem kefa ab MenNefer.

Alone was I ......

Why..After doing a 7 stint in Leavenworth (USDB) and reading and meditating I decided I wanted to take a more conscious role in creating myself and my name alluded to this as Khem: of no essential form "BLACK". kefa ab: seeking diligently with heart. MenNefer: The beautiful place, Good place, which is actually the Divine Fulcrum, capital of the two lands, Het Ptah Ka

The inference of the stasis that Christ is in through the symbolism of the Halo or Aura circling the head (in the spirit)...Thats MenNefer

Sha'iyn
07-26-2007, 05:09 PM
COMO WA'ALKI (Sudanese Arabic for HOW ARE YOU?)
my speciality is in etymology!
i hold a great importance to names and what's behind them. if it wasn't for names and the tones in them, it would be 9 times as hard to trace your identity. my mother named me shane. my friends call me shuga shane (like the boxer). i recently changed my name to sha'iyn abdul quduws after studying egipt and etymology. my name means sha' "clay" and the a'iyn principle correlates with etym- and numer- ology. the very tone of this principle is laden in my birth name though Shane is known as Irish. Abdul Quduws is "son of the Holy". This is an Arabic derivative. also known as A'shug Abdullah Gadush (A'shug is LOVE in ancient Egiptian; Abdullah is SON OF; and Gadush is HOLY)

UPTOWNE
09-02-2007, 10:57 AM
I was Born in NYC Harlem and Raised in The Bronx. Harlem and the Bronx are afectionatley refered to as UPTOWN Harlem being Uptown Manhattan and The Bronx being UPTOWN from Manhattan and in 1998 around the time I was looking for a unique monieker A rap group "Deja Vu" (Peter Gunz & Lord Tariq) came out with this hit song "UPTOWN BABY!" which although had some vulgar lyrics braged on and about the street life qualities of the Bronx Heres an excerpt below:

"New York to the heart but got love for all
Lie and die in the fire where I learned to ball
Uptown is the place where I lay my dome
On the streets of the Bronx where my family roam

But if it wasn't for the Bronx
this rap **** probably never would be going on
so tell me where you from?
Uptown baby, uptown baby"

THE REST IS HISTORY I added an "E" which is the "Ole English" spelling the name exudes class style and ponash

this is UPTOWNE baby!
