in you're pursuit of equality
please don't bottle me
in the group you're stacked up against
cause your fight is my fight sis
held down
ever since we fell down
seen as lazy coons
bufoons and clowns
i know we are funny
but d@mn
can't you see
they are trying to discredit me as your man
locking me in hostile lands
making it hard for me to stand
up for mines
so many of you are enriching your mind
while so many of us
are turning to crime
i'm not blind
to your bitterness
me calling you a b*tch or a ho
is a no go
i know
but the tv told me it was ok to say so
you are not my foe
and us fighting will eventually
pay a heavy toll

i'm on your side
we fight this fight together
in the same car we both ride
just like on the back of the bus
we can't let da white man break our trust
cause he's against both of us
not just me
not just you
do you really think
that i have it easier then you
maybe you do...
but i don't
and sit back and lose you
i won't
i'm saying all of this to say
if you make it before i do
i'm your brother
please don't screw...

me over
and give me the cold shoulder
while warming up the bed
of mastas kin
cause he's not the key holder
he's a power freak
and a slave molder
please don't turn your back on me
for a self proclaimed jehovah
who's so willing to put my name
on the next prison folder

The poem was very interesting and nice. Seriously, I identify as a black feminist/womanist and I do not believe that my being a feminist has lessen my"black consciousness." It's made me question alot of the opinions that are about black liberation; however, I really believe it has enriched my life. (For the most part). Why feminism seen as a way for black women to abandon "black issues or concerns?"

to answer your question:
because some(not all) black feminist persue this important issue(sexism) with more zeal then the even more important issue.(racism)

i wonder how black women would feel if black men started a liberation movement for black men rights...and in doing this fought for this with all of their combinded might, then whatever loose energy was left over, was given to fight racism for all black people...i really do not care who or what you identify with...my rationality(not any books) leads me to believe that if you are black in this country, you fight for black rights first, everything else comes second...just fighting for black women rights is selfish and in my eyes, not conducive of us ever getting to the promise land....together...now please do not get it twisted...i love it that my strong black sisters are fighting for womens rights...i'm just tired of seeing the divisions, which are a resultant of residual slave mentality issues, affect us in a negative way...i.e. (house n, field n, light skin black, dark skin black, man, woman)

sadie my sista...if you are giving more energy to fighting for women...i don't agree, i'll never agree

but i'm glad you are not leaving :)
peace
