aretha 11-23-2003, 04:34 AM Most of you have read the lyrics he wrote at 21 about black women and his prediction that he would enrich himself off of cultural banditry simply because of his "blue eyes." Russell Simmons wrote an apology almost before the lyrics were made public. The Source people who published the lyrics are said to be suspect because this is part of a longstanding beef. Could this be worse than Snoop Dogg and his Sistas on dog leashes? If ya don't know, the full story is at www.daveyd.com, including an editorial he wrote about it. Should he be taken to task, ignored, or continue to pimp "hardcore" rappers like 50 cent? I read where the "N" word was even played on the Victoria's Secret fashion show in the lyrics of a rap song on regular ol' t.v. How much more long, how long?
panafrica 11-23-2003, 06:22 AM I know that some black people feel anger towards Eminem or that he cheated them because they have bought his music only to find out that he habors resentment towards blacks (particularly black women). Personally I feel neither, because I have never supported Eminem or his music. I have never supported Eminem nor any white rapper before him (Vanilla Ice, Third Base, Beastie Boys, etc.), because I view them with suspicion: Throughout the 20th century whites have repeatedly entered black music forms (usually with the help of a naive-money hungry Negro) and took over.
We have seen this with Jazz, with Rock & Roll, with Disco, and now with Hip Hop. It is difficult to even find a modern Black Jazz or Rock & Roll group. Not only that but one of the main reasons Hip Hop was founded was to create an alternative to Disco, which was being invaded by white artist. White artist are usually less talented than Black artist, but achieve fame and credibility by copying us. They rarely give credit to the original artist, and are often found to harbor resentment towards their Black founders. This was my suspicion about Eminem, and he confirmed them with this "missing" song.
I made comparisons of Eminem to Elvis when I first heard his music. It's ironic that he compares himself to the "King". Eminem knows the formula to success in music: Get a foolish black artist to sponsor you, copy his style, start with a black fan base, then switch to a white one, sit back a make more money than a black artist could ever dream of. I give one thing to Eminem he knows his history, unfortunately too many of us don't. Which is why we keep holding the door for these people to come into our house and take over.
The only thing that has disturbed me with this episode is the number of black folk that are calling into radio shows still supporting this man's music. Many point out that black male rappers have disrespected black women also. Disrespect towards blacks period should never be tolerated. However a white man disrespecting sistas needs to be strung up, especially when he eats off of our invention. In reality Eminem won't be hurt by this incident because his current fan base is mostly white. I would just encourage black people to not support his music
SOULDEEP3 11-23-2003, 03:10 PM I have supported BEASTIE BOYS,3rd Bass{& Everlast, even though I've never bought any of his material, I still respect him as an artist for releasing a song called "Black Jesus"} for being creative & respecting OUR MUSIC by DISPLAYING that respect to the WORLD. The Beastie boys have an album called ILL COMMUNICATIONS{with a song w/Q-tip called "Get it Together" on it }INSIDE the cover, they have ARTWORK on the ORIGINS of HUMANITY: US, BLACKMAN,BLACKWOMAN & BLACK CHILD.....THAT CAN NEVER BE UNDONE,because it's already HISTORICAL{the album's release was in 1994}.3rd Bass's{mainly MC Serch} GAS FACE let it be known that " it was NIGHT waaaaay before the LIGHT"....& he's Jewish saying this, but TRUTH is TRUTH. Have you ever LISTENED to HIS verse in the GASFACE? Nothing but the TRUTH....TO THE WORLD. Eminem on the otherhand,I DON'T TRUST'UM,because I feel he has an ELVIS agenda that he's gonna pull on us whenever he 's ready....question is, how are WE going to COUNTERATTACK this?
happy69 11-24-2003, 10:09 AM Be Mad with Eminem, who will get a great Whitey Boost from this, when BLACK MALES have gotten rich on doing the very same thing---HOW DID HE KNOW THAT THIS IS AND WAS ACCEPTABLE IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY?
From US
They study what we do, hang around us to learn how to do, and then they resale it to us--- Where did he learn that?
DR. DRE', SNOOP DOGGY DOG, AND ALL THE REST OF THE
BLACK USERS AND ABUSERS....
Power to the People!
Em- is showing you people, just like J-lo showed you people; they not you-- You just made them rich and accepted--FOOLS
NNQueen 11-24-2003, 11:36 AM We love entertainment...period. We love to entertain and be entertained. We are the most forgiving people. We stare in amazement and 'respect' at every white boy that wants to be like us or any woman with T&A and long straight hair shaking her rear end for all she's worth to music with a beat...and she doesn't even have to have much rhythm to be admired either. We've been down this road time and time again throughout our history in America and we still haven't figured it out. They're gonna take what we do for fun and attach dollar signs to it every time. They are not modest, ashamed of plagarizing our inventions or downright stealing our work from us. Well I guess it's only stealing if they take from you without your permission. In many instances we just hand our ideas over to them like little children saying, see daddy, see what I can do? If they see you do something, they don't have to think they can do it better, they just say, hey, I see where I can make some money and use us to do just that, leaving us standing and looking (and feeling) dumb with our mouths hanging open. ... then you wanna get upset when they sell your ideas :flame: and then treat you like they don't know you or could care less about you. Yes, so upset that you need to go spend some more money...usually to purchase their latest CD to hear what all the controversy is about. Isn't it interesting that the KKK has also evolved over time? They no longer have to spend $$ on white sheets and waste time cutting holes in it. Why waste time burning crosses to send a hate message? They're bold enough to stand nose-to-nose with you these days and make money doing it! Is this sick or what?
Who was it that said that "chickens always come home to roost"?
Khasm13 11-24-2003, 11:38 AM all of mainsteam rap is

Emeka 11-24-2003, 02:46 PM Ahh this is becoming ridiculous!!! How many times will black people continue to accept disrespect and insults from others before we learn? This business of taking over things black is NOT new at all. Whites have always tried to claim great things, which blacks have done. This starts back from our civilizations, our inventions, our culture, and even down to our style of dress. And the worst thing about it is that we have always invited them amongst us, even when it was blatantly to our detriment. There are countless examples of what I'm talking about. It is often said that the greatest strength of any man is also his greatest weakness. Well our strength/weakness has always been that as a people we are too trusting and accepting of foreigners into our midst. Even prior to slavery and colonization this was the case. I won't do so now, but if you want me to give examples tell me and then in my next post I'll explain what I mean.
Now moving on to the in case of Eminem. Any clear eyed person with a reasonable knowledge of history and black psychology could have told you how rap would turn out from the beginning. Vanilla Ice, J-Lo, Justin Timberlake, Elvis Presley...even Kid Rock-have all used black music to make themselves bigger and then disown us. But yet when somebody stands up to this mess he/she is called a "reverse" racist who's tying to spoil the harmonious "communication" going on between the two race. Yet black people never stop to think: "Hold on wait a minute, how come Whites can enter and make money off our genre but we can't enter theirs?" When was the last time you heard of a black country singer or an all black heavy metal band? I'll tell you...NEVER!!! Yet when these type of questions are asked they fob you off with the "but blacks don't listen to these kind of music" line. Yeh right, like black people our one big homogenous group who all have the same taste in everything. Isn't it unfair how a white artists using black music like J-Lo, Justin Timberlake and Eminem get their music played in stations both targeted at white and black audiences, whilst black artists' only get played by those aimed at the latter.
Now in saying this I'm in no way a supporter of the derogatory images portrayed and embellished by the mainstream hip-hop artist. The glorification of black inferiority complex (aka ghetto mentality) is a story that goes waaaaaaay back. Hip-hop was not the first kind of music we produced that praised our "peculiar" way of thinking. Back in the day rock-n-roll and jazz also glorified certain stereotypes of blacks; believe it or not hip-hop is only following the tradition. When you have others like Eminem-or the guy who made that game board Ghettopoly-deriding us...then you know WE have a problem! The problem is not so much others who choose to denigrate us, but ourselves who allow them to get away with! For example, when J-Lo received some heat for using the n-word in one of her track. She acted like she had a right to say it and even had the nerve to say that her music was not influenced by black culture! What?! When you count how many tracks she "borrowed" from black artists and those who wrote her songs-she must be the dumbest person on Earth! Despite this you find black people buying her records, watching her films and wearing her clothes. What a shame.

You are so right, Chancelor Williams, in "The Destruction of Black Civilization" wrote that we as a people are too cosmopolitan, to inclusive, that is one of the reasons for our destruction.
pdiane 11-24-2003, 05:54 PM Chancelor Williams in his prolific book "The Destruction of Black Civilization" wrote that one of the reasons for our destruction was that we were too cosmopolitan, too inclusive with our enemies. We want to share with them everything we do and know, although they have a history of plagarizing and stealing.
^5 pdiane...I remember you from the pre-Viacom BET message board days...good2cu again!

You I remember you also Aquil, good to see where you are. I have always enjoyed you posts. Peace.
I pray that our people wake up!
pdiane 11-25-2003, 05:42 PM Aqil, sorry for spelling your name incorrectly.
uzoka 11-25-2003, 06:20 PM White people are parasites and black people are stupid.
Just wanted to show you I could summarise this thread in less than 10 words.
:)
Peace...
regan 11-27-2003, 08:52 PM [i am white and perform ragga or dancehall call it what you will please come check me out my web site is http://sonlyte.homestead.com i agree with you eminem is very uncounsious he is trapped by the worst drugs of them all greed and power it takes and corrupts from all man no matter what color they are, ragga is black music there is no doubt, please come my friends hear what ive learned and teach ...teach me something to learn .
aretha 11-30-2003, 01:46 AM In wholehearted agreement with Chukwuemeka!!
Hesaid 12-04-2003, 09:00 PM Just wanna ask Regan wot is it that keeps you so close
to our culture?
You say teach you, you teach us, what do we have that you
cant seem to leave?
On Eminem ever since Dre introduced him I said he will go
down in history as the man who opened the doors and closed
them on us, mark my words there are so many Regans
emerging, okay they've always been there lurking in our shadow
but since Dre did this, I cant tell you how many
White people now come out (with a certain pride and say)
Im a Rapper
and you know the outcome of that.

panafrica 12-04-2003, 09:46 PM Give Regan credit, he showed a lot of courage coming on here considering the topic, and most of the views being expressed here. That being said of course I didn't go to his site, I have no interest in "white" regga!!
Hesaid 12-05-2003, 05:36 AM I overstand your point but whats the worst that can happen?
Only rejection. Thats as cold as we get on an African site,
try goin to any white power site and see how many names
you can be called. Personally its our welcoming nature that
continues to oppress us which is exactly my point. I was asking
him a serious question cos I want him to tell me What it is?
So I gives no credit at all because in his case with the present
state of our music its easy, I'd quicker give eminem credit for
being the first to test the ground. Anyway peace,my brother
& to my white friend but you really must enhance
YOUR CULTURE not take ours, or you live a lie.
