I am from Brooklyn, New York, born and reared here, and despite it's reputation, I am quite proud to say I am from one ot the best known cities in the United States... I would enjoy the opportunity to escort any of our board members to see the sites of my fair BLACK BROOKLYN whenever they are in town... As the town is undergoing a tremendous economic renaissance, there are a bunch a places we could hang, and enjoy ourselves - without setting foot into the tourist trap of Manhattan...

One of my dreams is to visit Chicago again... Having learned so much about the BLACKNESS of that city since I was last there in 1976, I just have to go back, and say what up to my brethren in the Mecca of African American Musical Culture... Nuff Said 'bout dat...

But to my original question: Can you guys give us to some insights into what makes YOUR particular city a place where a brother or sister might wanna visit, and what is it like in your particular neighborhood???

I'm on the eastside of town, aint much happening over here on this end of the city. Pretty much the usual flavor you'll find in any city in America (thugs, gunslingers, crime, grime, sinners, and saints). Was born and raised in western Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh, chilling here in B-more since the mid 70's, once I get a bit more financially secure I'm fleeing this joint to more peaceful environs. B-more is home though so I can't knock it too much, it's just that I'm not a city slicker, I'd much rather prefer to live in the country and play in the city. Though I personally wouldn't recommend anyone to move here, you can find a few places to get your fun on here if you know where to look.

I'm from what most people call the "Black Mecca of the South" on the count that Atlanta, Ga has so many Civil Right things like Martin Luther King's real house and stuff. We've also had a lot of singers and rappers to come out to Atlanta like Usher, Monica, Lil John, Jermaine Dupri, Ying Yang Twins, Franchise Boys, Ludacris, and some other folks on t.v. It's kinda of exciting but not really since none of the rich people who I've called out don't come to the hood where I stay at. They rep our city but they live out in the suburbs. Central is the historically black high school here in Louisville (pronounced Lewy Ville). The first black public library in the nation (Western Branch) still stands, and has much to offer. There's also the Kentucky Derby for the white folk, the famous Louisville Slugger and Slugger Field, and a number of great artists have lived in these parts, including Ted Joans and Sam Gilliam.

Not a lot to do here, and I am more than ready to relocate. We do have an annual "Jazz in the Park" that draws folk from all over every summer. We also boast the National Conference on the Black Family In America every first weekend in March. This conference has brought in heavyweights such as Drs. Frances Cress Welsing, Nai'im Akbar, Jawanza Kunjufu, Molefi Asante, Asa Hilliard, Maulana Karenga, Haki Madhubuti, Nathan and Julia Hare, Alyce Gullatee, Charles Finch, Marimba Ani and many others.

If you're going to visit, do so in March.

but it's the City of Brotherly Shoves now.....i love it here, for being a major east coast city (4th largest in the US)...the real estate is very cheap here......now aside from some ''atty-toods'', philly is a beautiful place. one of the few east coast cities where they left some trees and wooded areas.....

1. Fairmount Park....the largest inner city park in the World...forget Germany, forget NYC....this is the largest....

2. Yall know it's bout the world's best cheesesteaks.....stop tryin to imitate us.....we make the ones that give you high blood pressure with the first bite....but sooo **** good..

3. the music scene....we got classical, jazz, rock, hip hop, spoken word, conscious hip hop 24/7.....nice clubs, top flight jazz clubs, dinky clubs, corner bars....

pretty good place to live, not an ideal place to visit................weather is miserable in the summer....sports teams are historically know for losing, outside of the rockets who people still don't give credit to, because "Jordan wasn't playing".............this makes me mad, because we used to beat the bulls and jordan said himself he didn't want to face the rockets in the finals..........the only great hip hop we can claim is The Geto Boys, Z Ro, and few others.......Our biggest landmark is a 1,763 year old sports stadium known as the "Astro Dome".....traffic and smog are problems.....the females do look good.....so yeah my cities not really know for anything amazing, but that's what I kind of like about it...................long live H Town!!!!
