Does this new show, "Playmakers", actually shows the pros and cons of not only how a football player lives but of any athlete? Explain why or why not.

View Full Version : Sports : Playmakers Eisha 09-21-2003, 03:52 PM Does this new show, "Playmakers", actually shows the pros and cons of not only how a football player lives but of any athlete? Explain why or why not. Royal_T 09-21-2003, 09:38 PM Yeah, I would say it shows the pros and cons. I think it shows more of the negative parts of the game to get that grip on viewers. Knowing a few pro athletes in the NFL and NBA, some of them boys have terrible stories. Some beating they wives having mad kids, drugs and all the rest of that stuff. I also don't see Playmakers showing folks doing charity and volunteer work (i take that back..one show did have the black dude that took the enhancers at the banquet promoting his charity). In the time it's alloted, I think they're doing an ok job. There is only one team they really focus on, so I'd say their doing ok and trying to keep our attention. $$RICH$$ 09-22-2003, 01:54 AM I would say yes it do show the pros & cons of reality in the sports world today but we also know this tell tales of what go on behind doors and yes many of the athletes cross lines and caught up in the abruse ,drugs hardship and this show PLAYMAKERS is showing lot of the down side to boost T.V. rate and get viewers MzBlkAngel 09-22-2003, 02:00 AM YES i believe it do show the pros and cons.... alot of them do get caught up...its life and things do happen SayWord 09-23-2003, 01:04 AM I think it shows the EXTREME pros and EXTREME cons. When I was a little younger I worked for a former pro football player. Mark Bavaro, tightend for the NY Giants. Athletes go through the same things non-athletes go through. They are put under a micrscope when there personal lives become exploits. You don't hear about athletes doing voluntary community service unless they are working with the United Way. PLAYMAKERS only shows hanging out, lavish homes, and getting caught up in the hype. They don't show the middle ground where most pro athletes fall into. $$RICH$$ 09-23-2003, 01:42 AM this so true they only show what we call the bad side of a athlete and if not under the wingz of unitedway a lot of them is over looked in the embrace of leadership to a community but the little T.V. show is given the side they wan't people to see and out to jump rates up and viewers not all of how and what go on behind the doors of pros ... i agree with you here. MzBlkAngel 09-24-2003, 03:10 AM i agree with that... they need the more negativity side of playin the game for the rating....but i still love the show... yall know i didnt get into football until my son and my nephews start playin...lol..still learnin Regina 10-23-2003, 06:16 PM It is trip how the one older running back gets caught up in the domestic violence thing. He didn't hit his wife, she fell while they were arguing but made him seem like the bad guy. She wasn't very supportive of it. Now I see why most athletes marry outside the race. Most Black women have attitudes! $$RICH$$ 10-24-2003, 11:50 AM to a degree but i don't think it a attitude problem with a woman of color it's more of how they see it there are many that stand just as strong behind their man ......i think it's something more deeper then attitudes .....but PlayMaker is is a show to open eyes to whats kinda happening behind the door of pro sports . SayWord 11-04-2003, 06:01 PM Last week's episode about how they white catholic gay football player was outed was amazing. I think it was one of the most emotional of this short season. Personally, the boyfriend wou;d've had to get his ***** beat down for doing that nonsense. Playmakers is becoming "Must See TV" Eisha 11-06-2003, 12:51 PM I think that this show does show the pros and cons of athletes. I was mainly paying attention to the situations and behaviors of D.H. The incident in the club was similar to that of Ray Lewis' dilemma. It kinda shows that you have to be careful of who you have as friends and to avoid those who are "troublemakers". Also, his drug activities is definately similar to many atheletes now like Michael Irvin. However, there are some situations where there is a little light. He have a nice house, endorsements, money and in the last episode, tried to help his brother's organization out as much as he can. So, it does show that even though there is a storm, there will always be a rainbow when it is over. $$RICH$$ 11-06-2003, 07:20 PM yes so true it really give you a total picture of the pros and cons in the sport arena today it's a teaching stage now so many of our young gifted one's don't get caught up in the drama and know there true friends we you look at it like not just Ray Lewis but so many before him and like now how the Leauge taking big bucks from Warren Sapp......playmakers is part of the inside story not told . Eisha 12-02-2003, 09:44 AM I only heard this from rumors, but the actual NFL league is talking about suing the show or taken it off the air. It was something like that. I'm not sure if this is true or not? |
