The Detroit Shock had the worst record in the league last year - but last night they topped the Los Angeles Sparks to claim the WNBA title. What an incredible group of players, and so young! De-throning the Sparks is big, big, big. Karl Malone was courtside (literally) praying for his daughter Cheryl Ford, who did make the clutch free throws. In another NBA-related twist, Bill Laimbeer and the Pistons denied Cooper and the Lakers a three-peat in 1989. Fast forward to this year and it's a coaching thang....but same scenario.

I am so very very proud of the Shock for their never say die spirit and for standing up to thuggery in the Sparks - the team with the worst attitude in the league. Yeah, Shock! We're partyin, baby! :D

I'm get so excited seeing men talk about and support womens basketball. I also think that it was super great that the Shock won. I didn't want to see the Sparks win again for many reasons. The league needs multiple winners...makes it better to see folks battle it out. The Sparks were played anyway...I do like N. Teasley..she's tight!!!

Teasley is cool, n I don't mind her like the other Sparks. (if she were on a diff team I'd like her) But dang those Sparks are such thugs! I was way too happy they lost. ;) Detroit - what a story! Worst to first! They have such heart and respect for themselves and each other. Truly, truly inspiring to watch. The whole playoff series was great! I'm also glad we have another champ finally besides Houston and LA. :D

yes it makes it all worthy and fun but now next year
from worse to first place champs Detroit......
can they have the same hunger to win a back 2 back !!!
or have they made the statement of reaching the top enough
and will we see a new champion team other then L.A /// Houston
or Detroit......to early to tell !!!!

That's a great question, $$RICH$$, and I think you're right that it's too early to tell. I think, though, that Detroit might have the hunger next year cuz they so young. Youth also translates into a lotta energy, too. Their coach is smart, and cuz of those things, they have a great shot next year.
