i thought this would make an interestiing topic. i have run into several individuals who have a bad habit of being critical. my opinion is when one feels that
they are inadequate , or feel the need to be perfect,
they judge the world according to
there own lack and wish for ultimate flawlessness, which
is impossible....i think it is the most aggravating trait to have
because it really shows the insecurity of
that individual, and also
hurts relationships very bad...

Sister More, I agree with you. People who are overly critical and judgmental can be annoying and do great harm to any relationship they are in when they behave that way.

Tell me, how do you handle these people and/or situations like this?

when people are critical I take a step back, size them up, take a deep breath, humble myself, then consider the source from which it came. now if he/she is a religious person I say to them, now what you just said must make God very proud of you or I,ll change the subject and talk about an incident of the critic that relates to his/hers comment.

example: oh! she is such an @$$ for staying with him after all
hes done.
This is me: Gurl! I know you know what your'er talking about!
Experience is such a good teacher!
Or sometimes I just dont even respond. Lol!

i have several ways i handle it depending upon the person, but in every way, i maintain, my cool, and concentrate on the purpose and reason behind the criticism rather than the actual statement. behind everything we do is a reason, and once u figure that out, you can roll with it. a person may lash out
not because of you, but because of something inside them, or what someone has done to them. but any form of negative
criticism stems from fear. So define the fear......take it from there.:shades: :shades: :shades: :smokin:

...I think a critical person just thinks that he/she knows what they are talking about....that person may be right or wrong.....if they're right, swallow your pride and listen up.....if they're wrong, correct them.....life is about learning and growing....it does no good for the critical person to just make a snappy remark without explanation....and it also does no good for the one being critized to just roll their eyes and brush them off.....

Pride gave the lion his food, and got him killed....
