Royal_T 07-28-2003, 10:41 PM I watch televison (unfortunately) and see so many people hold their tongue due to being politically correct. In my opinion it's an "acceptable" way of lying.
It's rubbing off into everyday life with everyday folk. Does anyone see this as a problem? If people bottle up what they really want to say, how much progress are we really making as a people (black), as a society (America) and the Global community.
Should we stomp out PC or am I on the wrong page!!!!

happy69 07-29-2003, 05:42 AM Yes, PC is legislated, and you cannot legislate Hate or Indifference.... Plus, I think that us--Black Folk-- should want to know really where "someone" stands--- we are always being fooled... some of us any way.
NNQueen 07-29-2003, 07:40 AM What IS "political" and "correctness"? How is it defined and what purpose does it serve and for whom does it benefit? How does being politically correct when we speak impact our constitutional right of "free" speech?
Good topic Royal T!
Peace!
Royal_T 07-30-2003, 04:14 PM Thanks Happy and NNQueen....That's an even better question NNQ...who does it benefit?
DreamFunk 08-01-2003, 05:10 PM I agree with you all 100%...
..."political correctness" goes hand-in-hand with the "player hater" thing in the Black community....who does it benifit...???...it benifits the the sheep hearders who gain fame and fortune off of the mindless sheep.....
...how do you supress "freedom of speech"...???...you get people to believe that having your own opinion is wrong.....
Royal_T 08-03-2003, 05:21 PM ...how do you supress "freedom of speech"...???...you get people to believe that having your own opinion is wrong.....
SO TRUE...AND ON TOP OF THAT....Having a different opinion different from white america is when there is a problem. It's really a nasty situation purposely and strategically placed for people to keep their mouths closed.
happy69 08-04-2003, 02:15 PM Royal T-- you hit on the nail with the last post... we believe in the hype, then we get speared by the hypocrisy.
NNQueen 08-04-2003, 04:20 PM Why would anyone be afraid to speak the truth about what they know? More specifically, why would any Black person in America engage in "politically correct" speech or feel better just because others do when talking about them?
Does being called an African American by a racist make you feel better or any less oppressed than when he/she use to call you by the "n" word? Because it's no longer "cool" for people to walk around spreading their hatred when they speak, does it make them less prejudice and more tolerant of Black people?
Because some whites are uncomfortable and complain when the subject of race relations in America comes up, why would any African American be empathetic toward their feelings and choose not to discuss the real issues about race in this country around them? Is PC language supposed to translate into them caring more about your feelings?
Is political correctness ruining our honesty? If you were in a room full of Blacks and find that you would communicate differently than if you were in a room of racially mixed people, then you're not being open and honest. Some people don't like to or are afraid to ruffle feathers when among a racially mixed audience. So they hold back.
So what does that make those of us who are PC empathizers?
Royal_T 08-04-2003, 04:28 PM NNQueen...Amen. I think it's sickening. Everytime I see Blacks and Whites discussing race amongst each other. Blacks tend to hold back what they are really thinking and White folks tend to play down what really is. They say stuff like "Slavery was so long ago, let's get over it." Sometimes I don't understand why we don't speak up to say what we feel. It's ridiculous. NNQueen, you put it so nicely.
cypher 08-06-2003, 05:01 PM now you should know that u r never on the wrong page...anyhow i think that PC is just another tactic to diminish the truth and keep us on the outside, blind, deaf and dumb, eyes and mind closed to reality...it's just a shame that so many black 'uncles' choose to conform and take on these tactics as a means to glorify their on ideals....what's really going on
weinfeld 10-10-2003, 12:23 PM pollitical correctness is also alive a well AMONG US as well.I remenber the first time Jesse Jackson announced that he was going to run for the Democratic nomination for President way-back-when.I wouldn´t have voted for him because he´d never held public office before, and I said so.I got talked about, put down, disdained, and was just generally called a traitor for disagreeing with the majority of Black people.I´m not even going to get into what I went thru during the O.J. trial. It seems that if you dare to disagree with Majority"of Blacks",you are not "enlightened",aware of your history,a self-hater,etc,etc
Royal_T 10-10-2003, 04:11 PM weinfeld...So true indeed. PC is going to destroy the world cause people are so closed minded.
AND WELCOME TO DESTEE......
weinfeld 10-10-2003, 05:01 PM Thanx for the welcome. That is also why my motto is "to thy self be true".Trying to be "correct" and following the crowd to be "down" cause me to do some things contrary to the way I was raised and when the smoke cleared,I was left taking the blame all alone.I learned the hard way....sad to say...that EVERYBODY black doesn´t always have your best interest in mind. And if you´re trying to pull yourself up or otherwise grow, some people will even put obsticles in your way
