View Full Version : Front Porch : Why Do You Post??
Poeticsoulsista 07-27-2003, 12:30 PM If ur repsonse is not on the poll please Post it, We all would really like to know ur opinion and the reason you share
This is specifically for all the poets in the house, Why do you post ur poetry? In the "Get your flow on " forum it was a young lady in there who was thinking of leaving destee because no one was really responding to her work, A fellow poet told her that she should only flow for her self, not for the approval of others. Now, in some ways he's right. I think you shouldn't write to please others but in all reality when a poet share their work they are sharin for some type of feed back(good or bad) or so that they can get a message across, at least that's what I thought....
In my opinion and from my experience, many post their work to share, to get a message across, but mainly to get some type of feed back. It's very important to me as a writer and a poet, to get others opinion of my work. To not get a response is like a spoken word artist gettin on stage, spittin their work and not getting any type of applause, smiles, snaps, or anything after they are done. The audience just looked at them. When the poet get off stage someone say it's all about gettin on stage performing for ur self and makin ur self happy. That's a bunch of BS. What do you think?
NADIA*BINTA 07-27-2003, 02:09 PM i post my poetry to share & for feedback... ya know i wanna know if ur feelin me or if my stuff is wack... though neither will make or break me... it just feels good to get a AMEN and release the words that dance in my mind all the time...
peace
Poeticsoulsista 07-27-2003, 02:21 PM Thanks for sharin and I feel exactly what you are sayin.

Khasm13 07-29-2003, 01:34 PM in my eyes...these are just my eyes that i'm talking about...i post to get better in the craft that we call poetry...i don't know how it is with most poets that post but most of my poems i think of a topic and write the poem right there on the spot...i also write other places too, most of the time i don't post those because i feel like my subject content might offend others, and that's not my purpose here...but on the strength, i post my poetry to see where i am at, and it constantly changes, getting some feedback is cool, but remember, this is cyberland...everything is not what it seems in cyberland...so take everything with a grain of salt...at least that's what i do...now if you were at an open mic doing your poetry and no one listen or clapped when you finished, then i would be like what the hell :), see that's the real world...i've been to plenty of places on the web where feedback is at a minimum...i had faith in myself regardless of how much feedback i got...but when i got here i was like oh my goodness...the love was off the hook...still, i saw others getting more love than me...a lot to be specific...not once did i think of changing my style to get more views/responses...cause if i did...then i would be selling out...you gotta be true to yourself...if you post to get responses, then do that, if you post to become a better poet, then do that...if you post so that your cyber-voice can be heard, then do that...but whatever you do
to thine own self be true and stay true....
peace

HODEE 07-29-2003, 11:30 PM I post to get things off my mind. It renews me on an issue... In some ways it allows me to move forward.

This is correct about the poet on stage. But like here on DESTEE we ( they ) try and comment and applaud each other. Some one posted a comment that said.. some times they view the work.. and find it hard to have something to say. Yet the work moved them.
Post bring your work to the top.. but reads get your message out.
I'll take my reads.
PlayWitItPimp05 07-29-2003, 11:36 PM Destee has helped me to grow in my poetry and in my mentality also. At first I was posting for feedback, true, but Destee has helped me along the journey of finding who I am, therefore I have learned to post for myself. I also appreciate a lot of the love that this site gives me. That's all I can say right now, but I shall return!!

ifasehun 07-30-2003, 01:01 PM i consider this site (*******************) to the largest repository of pan-african links on the entire internet. as such, the traffic is probably out of this world..
and logically that would mean that this is one of the best opportunities on the net to share, learn and spread positive messages.
Poeticsoulsista 08-01-2003, 01:34 PM Thanks for sharin Brothas

Why more mind burns
In black fire
Who knows
What will happen
If it is not released
My thoughts
Can not be contained
To only my vessel
I must sail
Across the ocean
I love to flow

$$RICH$$ 07-27-2004, 01:34 AM I flow from my heart to release mentally to the readers and as a poet
to express my self and build my craft to a higher level a feedback is
respectful to a poet and the art but it's not all about that for me i can
have 3 replys and 50 looks i'm happy coz i know they did read me and
maybe felt the message i pose'd it's hard not to flow as a poet anyway
coz a poet brings a vision a scribe of meanings a feeling of expression
showing love to poet's is respecting there art which from my
heart i do daily love reading others and inneracting with them poeticly
is a gift within it's self sometime a poet can lift u to a new level of
creativity and bring out a flow u didn't know was within u so this why
i write and flow to create and bring a message to my people even a
laughter sometime a tear ........
watzinaname 07-27-2004, 10:18 AM I agree with a lot that Rich said. For me, it's way of communicating, expressing, creating. If I don't create something, somehow, I feel dead inside. If others feel a message from my work, it does make me feel happy, although relaying a message is often not my intent. I just often feel I have so much inside of me that is just bursting to get out, so I'm doing that, releasing myself in poetry. Feedback is always nice, because you may never know what your words do to another person, or what effect that person's response may have on you. Hopefully, I'm not rambling here...anywho, this is why.
jazzymoonchild 07-27-2004, 10:30 AM I agree with Watz and Triniti. I wirte because I like the feeling of creating something. Some pieces I feel very strongly about and can't wait to see what others think about them. Some pieces I love, but I keep them private, or they were written for someone and only that person and I will ever read them. Writing, whatever way I choose that day, is relaxing and therapeutic for me. This site, and the family, makes me feel like I am in class. I learn so much here from so many people. That is why I post and continue to come here.
queentswana 07-28-2004, 11:22 PM I'm a great lover of poetry. When I first came to this site I thought it was just a site where you can just read poetry, I checked out a few and read the replys...and it was on. Most of the time I only write poetry when I need to vent, other than that, I love to reply to something I read. When I do really write something, more of my heart be on paper...than pen. I also found that penning poetry with "brilliant" people (that's on this site) tents to sharpen you up as well...for "people tend to grow...with 'growth.
Poeticsoulsista 08-30-2004, 11:13 AM When I first started this thread I started it cause I wanted feedback and I wasn't getiing it. So I decided to take all of my work off the site until... Until when I didn't know but I felt I wasn't posting for the right reason. I was excited about people complementing me on my work cause I didn't share that often. But now I post just because. I have some good peices and regardless of who reads it. There is a message in them. Knowing someone will learn from something I wirte is what I yearn for now. Not replies. Now I understand why Khasm said " to thy own self be true and stay true" If I don't believe in my my work it will be nothing. No matter how many positive responses I get. No one opinion really matters but mine. My writing is an extension of me and with out my blessings it will always be just words with no feelings.
Peace

Destee 08-30-2004, 11:30 AM Poeticsoulsista ... may i have your permission to move this thread to the "Front Porch (http://destee.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=168)?" It's the kind of thread that should be sitting on the front porch for all to see, and respond to, when they come in. It will also allow the poll to be featured on the home page (http://destee.com) of the site.
Currently, only threads i've started are on the Front Porch, so if you give me permission to move this one there ... only threads you and i have started will be there!
Whatcha think Sister? Please let me know if i have your permission to move it there.
Thanks a Bunch.

nabraska 11-06-2004, 06:21 AM Now I love getting feedback but don't get me wrong...I want to be one to add to this site to help it grow. To me it's all about communication, and meeting people. I have read some excellent work and met some excellent people. The more I read, the more I get inspired. I love Destee for creating this site, and I love the poets who support it. I feel like I have a family--an extended family of poets. So not only do I post for the feedback, I post to give feedback, because it's all about the love!!

Moorfius 01-09-2005, 02:38 PM When one becomes or is becoming fully aware of what is "Really" going on as apposed to what we think is going on and what is hidden from our lack of perseption because of a (Mis-Education) in the first place, you want to tell somebody (Family) and warn every one (Black-People) that something is About to happen and we should know about it long before it does so that we can save our-selves from inpending doom.
Time is running out for a lot of things and we (The ones who survive) African's in America will find ourselves renched from the oppressor and condition that is unexceptable to G-d the Creator of All things.
We have been fooled, tricked, deceived, led-astray, mis-guided, by the open enemy for soo long that now we are fooling, mis-leading , mis-treating and most of all un-believing in our self and this will and is bringing on serious conciquences from the Natural Order of Things today.

Prizefighter16 01-10-2005, 09:42 PM i don't really care how corny this all sounds. But i joined this site as a way of being part of a community where i could actually take part with my brothers and sisters. I don't have any adult poets that i can look up to in my surroundings. So the fact that i come here, is a learning experience. I was new to the whole post poetry and expect a reply, but the biggest thing I wanted to do is read other poetry. It was such an enjoyment to see similarities in the view of the world. I know im one the youngest, so i do take everything in. Hopefully when im ready to put myself out there, it will be with the wisdom i have acquired from all over, including here in destee!!!!1
Poetic Justice 05-26-2005, 02:05 PM I post to stop the words from threatning to escape from my mind, all day they play havoc on my mentality and then sometimes it starts on its own, i dont even know sometimes why i post what i do, i let my mind takeover, i see everything in writer form, some may say the sky is blue, when i look i think, the semblance of the sky was kissed in blue.
Lloyd 10-16-2005, 01:10 PM I post my poetry to know if i'm able to share my feelings to the others.Sometimes u may believe that u've skills but its not the case!!!So its a good way to improve urself
KaNvaZ 10-16-2005, 02:34 PM I post because I feel a kinship with the people in this great community. The first time I came across this site, I was mainly just looking for a site to share my poetry and my rhymes. But in the short time I have been here, through posts and the chat room, my experience here as transgressed more than just spitting rhymes and such. As some of you already know, I am not Black but rather Asian, and yet, everyone I have met so far have welcomed me with open arms and accepted me, no questiosn asked.
There is just a connection I cannot put into words.
That is why I am here.
Tiana 10-16-2005, 03:53 PM I actually havent posted too much. I just like reading. The vibe is cool. Good peeps, good reading, even when no one agrees with each otha.
spicybrown 01-14-2006, 07:37 PM I post my poetry, because it's what's on my mind at the moment. I also like to know whether or not i'm the only one feeling this way. Therefore, I let my fingers do the talking. :spinstar:
asimplepoet 03-21-2006, 07:56 PM Poetry is in my bones. I wake up with words flowing through my mind. I post so i can have an audience of more than one, just little me. I love the feedback this site offers. It inspires me to continue on my jouney to be a simple poet
$$RICH$$ 03-21-2006, 10:16 PM it's beautiful to see all the reasons why people post and share there inner
