Today in Heaven
Four black girls
Three of them young teenagers actually
Playing with the angels, smiling
Giggling as young girls do

Had they remained on earth
They would be in their early 50's
Perhaps still living in Birmingham
Children of their own
Would have listened to their tales of the struggle

But a hate filled bomb sent them to God
As they met to pray
In a church on 16th Street
Like Joan of Arc
They died just before the pain
No need for them to suffer
God is good like that

I'm sure they don't even know
The earthly headlines of Yesterday
"1963 Church Bomber Convicted"
But today in heaven
Four young black girls
Denise McNair, Carole Robertson,
Addie Mae Collins and Cynthia Wesly
Are smiling a little wider
Laughing a little louder
Playing a little harder
Today in heaven

This is a very nice tribute to the Birmingham Four~ Loved the way you captured the essence of heaven for them, and for us!

Thank you.

May we always remember the price that was paid for our freedom. It is poems like this one, that will always remind us to be appreciative of the freedoms we have today.
Thanks for letting us experience their heartbeat...once more.
I was just a little girl, but I remember the pain though at that time, I could not explain it. Still, I can not explain it.
