I understand the importance of eating right and getting exercise. Does anyone practice yoga and meditation as a daily routine? If so, what type of yoga do you practice?

A007 05-09-2003, 12:49 PM good question...I'm awaiting an anwser too ifasehun 05-12-2003, 02:24 PM yes. I am 31. i have been meditating since i was 15 or so. i started tai chi and yoga back in '95. ashtanga yoga. sometimes a more commerial version called Power Yoga is presented. its real big with athletes and celebrities for whatever reason. lol its very demanding form - builds up a sweat and works you out like you are at a gym without losing the original principles of concentration, balance and peace. what do you wanna know about yoga and meditation? NNQueen 05-25-2003, 06:35 PM ifasehun, thank you for your response. What I'm curious about is what people do on a daily basis (outside of prayer) to relax and reduce stress, become more spiritually connected . . . What do you consider to be the advantages of yoga and meditation? Does it basically derive from Eastern (Asian) culture or are there African roots to this practice? http://www.jamiewalker.org/meditation.htm Indra 06-16-2003, 11:02 AM Ha afcourse there are african roots everywhere! In two big islands for the coast of india there are still untouched african tribes, the indians afcourse decended from them. About Yoga and meditation; meditation is easy, while for Yoga it takes more balance and sweat. I'm quite lazy, me stretching out in the morning is considered my yoga. Meditation is lovely, but you need to concentrate to get your mind clear from any tought, witch is very relaxing and helps you to find your inner light. What do you consider to be the advantages of yoga and meditation? [color=red]for me? meditation does: developing the power of foresight/vision/mild prophecy aids in concentration control depression/anger/frustration better digestion more control over how i reacte to highly stressful situations. yoga: all of the above toned body flexibility stronger better posture less aches and pains. Does it basically derive from Eastern (Asian) culture or are there African roots to this practice? both. but, mostly real african forms of meditation are not in any book and are available exclusively within certain african religions, and then in only certain lineages of practice. its one of those things that is fast becoming a lost artform in its original african state. you can safely pick up any eastern system and feel confident you are practicing an offspring or facisimile of an african method. http://www.jamiewalker.org/meditation.htm ifasehun 07-31-2003, 02:51 PM Originally posted by NNQueen ifasehun, thank you for your response.
