MY INTERVIEW WITH AQIL

By Destee

Q: When and how did you first become interested in astrology?

A: I became interested in astrology in 1976. Some years ago I had a discussion with a friend who called me a “negative Capricorn,” something I had never been called before, and, quite frankly, something that I did not understand. I was curious as to its meaning and began reading articles and books on astrology and was amazed at the accuracy of my astrological descriptions. In 1976 I had an astrological profile prepared by a professional, and I was completely overwhelmed by its accuracy.

Q: When did you begin creating astrological charts? Is there any type of license or certificate that you must obtain in order to practice astrology?

A: I began the practice of constructing natal charts (i.e., horoscopes) early in 1977, after attending a non-accredited course in Basic Astrology at the University of Buffalo in 1976. One does not have to be licensed or certified in order to practice astrology, although most reputable astrologers in this country are members of the highly regarded American Federation of Astrologers, which issues a certificate of membership upon passing a required examination.

Q: Briefly describe what goes into a chart. What are the particular parts that make it up? And how do you go about creating one?

A: Well, what the astrologer actually does is re-create the Heavens for the time of a person’s birth. He then interprets the cosmic information derived thereof. He does this by constructing a natal chart, which is a map of the Heavens at the time of birth. This chart is based on astronomical data, and shows the positions of the Sun, Moon and planets at a specified moment in time as viewed from a definite locality on planet Earth.

In the computation of a horoscope three things are essential: the date, time and place of birth. Although the celestial bodies will be in the same zodiac signs on a given day for all places on Earth, their house (or mundane) placements in the horoscope will be different according to the time and place on Earth from which they are viewed. With these coordinates a horoscope can be constructed, showing the planetary patterns existing on a particular date, at a particular time and place.

Q: Can one earn a living as an astrologer? Approximately how much do you charge per chart? And do you know how many charts you have done in your lifetime?

A: Just like anyone else, a competent astrologer – one who is proficient in his/her trade – makes a comfortable living. Most charge between $20 and $50 for a natal chart, and about the same for a progressed chart. A professional astrologer prepares thousands of charts during his/her lifetime.

Q: What type of satisfaction do you get from telling people about their horoscopes? And do you feel that you have a special gift for predicting one’s future?

A: It is not a matter of self-satisfaction. There are factors in my horoscope that indicate that this is my mission and purpose in life. One cannot forecast the future from the study of a horoscope. No reputable astrologer would attempt to predict precisely events and conditions. What he can do is to determine the periods during a lifetime when agreeable or discordant conditions are likely to prevail. From his judgment of the horoscope he can obtain a very clear indication of the basic personality traits, and this enables him to discern how a particular individual will react to a definite set of circumstances. The interpretation of a horoscope is not something that can be acquired overnight. It is a sustained discipline that requires not only perseverance, but also a degree of intuition, in addition to the ability to assess the astrological factors in a realistic and empirical manner.

Q: Can you give me a brief history/background of astrology?

A: Astrology is the oldest science in the world, actually predating the dawning of antiquity. It had its origins in central east Africa, in the ancient country of Abyssinia, whose modern name is Ethiopia. It traveled to ancient Egypt, to ancient Chaldea and Babylonia, and was common practice among the Hindus of India. Astrology evolved from the ancient worship of the Moon and its phases. Through the long nights before any history books were written, generations upon generations of ancient priest-astrologers sat and contemplated the wondrous and orderly procession of the seasons and the shining stars in the Heavens. Man soon gave them names, and the names were those of the animal spirits he worshipped.

Archeologists have unearthed clay tablets recording astrological events that are over 60 centuries old in Mesopotamia. Five thousand years ago the priest-astrologers predicted the flooding of the rivers by watching the starry Heavens and calculating the phases of the Moon. The Assyrian priests discovered the zodiac and its twelve divisions. They learned to calculate the irregular paths of the major planets and predicted eclipses. Astrologers of the ancient world were the Chaldean Wise Men (called “Magi”) who were the first mathematicians, and who arranged the first calendars. These same astrologers were the founding fathers of the first universities, and they built the world’s first skyscrapers (called “ziggurats”) in order to observe the movements of the planets.

PurpleMoons:

You were born with the Sun in Cancer, the Moon in Gemini, and your time of birth gives you Virgo rising sign. All the planets are in the earth and water signs except the Moon, which is in the air sign Gemini, Mercury (your life ruler), which is in the fire sign Leo, and Venus, which is also in Gemini. I'll touch upon a few standouts in your horoscope:

You have a powerful stellium (a conjunction of 3 or more planets) in the 10th house...the house of careers, status and professionalism. This indicates that much of your life will geared toward achieving...being somebody...establishing a career, etc. The Sun, Venus, Mars and Jupiter tenant the 10th house.

Seven of the ten planets in the solar system were concentrated in the fourth quadrant of the Heavens, which indicates outgoing intellectual, emotional and physical activity.

At the time of your birth the mutable earth sign Virgo was ascending on the eastern horizon. You have highly discriminating sense of justice, a good mind, and a rather attractive and diplomatic demeanor. You will rise in life through your own merit, attention to detail, and hard work; in short, through your own achievements. Nevertheless, there is a lack of perspective or proportion in your outlook that causes you to overemphasize the importance of trivial matters and small details.

Being a mental sign, Virgo clings to its own ideas with a tenacity and esteem that seems to counter all the other influences of this sign. Your willpower is strong, yet you are perfectly capable of being swayed by logic, reason and finesse. Generally of a quiet nature, you are nevertheless capable of eloquence and remarkable persuasiveness when the occasion calls for it. By vocation you are probably inclined to health, hygiene, diet, nutrition, and the medical sciences.

As a child you probably endured poor health, and possibly poverty. Even as an adult, most of what you manage to acquire is through your own hard work, and is, therefore, richly deserved. You will probably realize some financial gain through an inheritance or the property of your business or marriage partner. This could happen some distance from your place of birth. Whatever else you do, avoid gambling and speculation if you want to hold on to what you have earned.

Despite your pleasant and attractive public personality you are difficult to know well. Only those whom you feel are sincerely affectionate or trustworthy can ever become your confidantes. You are definitely not the temperamental type; as a rule you are slow to anger, but, by the same token, you don’t find it easy to forgive people who have wronged you.

Although there are exceptions in every instance, relatives and neighbors are frequently inimical to your personal welfare. Quite probably there is a coldness or lack of sympathy in your relationships with siblings. Your own family will be small, and your children not as keenly interested in marriage, as you would like them to be.

With Virgo rising solid happiness in your love life will come late. Because Virgo is a mutable sign, you may marry more than once and/or engage in extramarital affairs. Whatever difficulties you face your achievements and ultimate success will somehow revolve around short trips or long journeys, possibly associated with changes in occupation...

Correction, PurpleMoons:

Your natal Moon is in Gemini, and it tenants the 9th house of the higher mind, religion, philosophy, higher education, and long journeys. Here is its delineation:

The Moon was in the mutable air sign Gemini at the time of your birth, thus you are interested in the intimate contact of the moment. Your emotional personality requires variety and novelty rather than duration and depth of feeling. You are generally incapable of long-sustained feelings or of undivided loyalties. Though at times you can be insensitive, your perceptions are quick and accurate. You sustain impressions through thought rather than feeling...

Your senses serve the intellect rather than the emotions. This results in an ability for dispassionate observation and reasoning. Your mind is changeable and at times chaotic, but you can assimilate an indefinite amount of detail. Being versatile and adaptable, you may have two or more vocations, often at the same time...

You have a fondness for action and movement, either physical or mental. Your hands are able, facile and skillful, and you have a well-developed sense of taste and smell. You are not intuitive, but rather you are observant, quick to form impressions, and usually able to verbalize them instantly.

You are attracted to the artistic and literary professions, or any area involving communications. A preference, even a need to do several things at once is important for your psychological well being. The intellectual ability of this position of the Moon often makes you an avid reader or a talented artisan.

You are reserved in personal matters, and at times others find you cold; you are more interested in the here and now than in the past. Torn apart by changing feelings, you can spread yourself too thin and scatter your energies; this can manifest in nervous tension. You know how to play up to others, and at times you may be too shrewd for your own good. Your restless nature is always in search of something new.

Ordinarily, this position of the Moon may indicate superficiality and a lack of domesticity in the horoscope of a female, but since you are a Cancer, this wouldn't apply to you...

Mercury is the planetary ruler of Gemini, and the key phrase for this sign is “I think.”

Your Virgo Ascendant and Your Gemini Midheaven

Although both the signs Virgo and Gemini are ruled by Mercury, the planet of the mind, they are almost diametrically opposed to one another in the behavior they exhibit. While your Virgo Ascendant (rising sign) will take the most sensible path in any given set of circumstances, your Gemini Midheaven (i.e., cusp of the 10th house) prefers to do whatever seems appropriate at the moment.

Both signs are intellectually quick; however, Virgo stresses practical applications of an idea, while Gemini does not. You would prefer to be “foot-loose and fancy-free,” gathering experiences and visiting new places in a sort of perpetual motion. However, your Virgo Ascendant represents stability: if you are at all a traveler, you would probably be of the armchair variety. An occupation that combines physical stability with intellectual activity would be ideal for you.

When placed in a tense situation though, you are likely to exhibit the best imitation of “scatter-brain” behavior that one could imagine. Your normally realistic personality will begin hatching schemes to extricate yourself from difficulties when these solutions may not even apply to the problem. Unfortunately, your best method of coping with difficulties seems to be a quick disappearing act, which your Virgo Ascendant – at full operant – would never condone...

All of the planets except Neptune were above the horizon at the time of your birth. This means that you are a goal-oriented person, and highly objective in your thinking...
